Thoughts on The Hunger Games

Today I went to see The Hunger Games, rather spur of the moment more than a planned occurrence as someone suggested it while we were in the pub.

just tested out instagram on android too while i was in the pub

Going into this film I had just seen the trailer and originally I was quite interested, the premise sounded really interesting and it seemed like they were aiming for something bigger and I knew that the books were meant to be quite decent too although I had heard bad things about the direction they took this film but I bit the bullet and saw it as my friends wanted to see it.

I gotta say it was a decent film, I quite liked the idea of an old tradition that seems morally questionable that is finally questioned. Also it has the whole post-apocalyptic world thing going for it which always brings something quite different to the table. The setting for this film takes place quite far after the event so things have moved on but there's a very strong rich and poor divide and the poor seem to have good survival skills in the wild whereas the rich seem to have the usual futuristic things that you would expect. I should also mention that the poor are separated into districts due to a rebellion years ago.

That was what initially drew me in but the film centers around one character named Katniss Everdeen and I quite like how they set her up as a strong character from the start which is good. She seems to be a highly skilled but very modest and she seems to be the one protecting her family which is an interesting dynamic. I definitely commend the film for doing this however it seems that they center around her a bit too much, leaving not enough time for other characters to develop. It's obvious that there trying to win back the twilight crowd but with a stronger protagonist and I'm pretty happy with that in the sense that its not an exact twilight clone with an empty shell of a character as the lead person.

I would''ve really liked to know more about the world outside of the hunger games, you see glimpses of it when things kind of break down in district 11. Also when you catch a glimpse of the rich you see the people running the event talk and it seems very old world order trying to keep a grips on the poor. Looking back it wasnt really as bad as the fact that other contestants seemed to be quite under developed but I guess it was due to time. If they can develop on the outside world a bit more which seems likely with the way things ended it could be an interesting series. I do want to pick up the books to see if that provides some good detail.

Hello World *groan*

Yes, I used that classic internet first page title of Hello World but I'm getting ahead of myself, my name is Arjun Taheem but first i must ask are you a girl or are you a boy?

Kidding, so I suppose I should state my reasons for this blog being on the magical interwebs that we call the internet. I love technology and I used to quite like writing and its a key skill that kinda seems like it could get lost easily with the profession i want to follow. I'm currently studying Computer Science at hull and as you may have guessed, I'm a bit geeky. But geeky's fine its part of who I am and it just means I have an interest in things that are considered out of the ordinary.

I like my sci-fi and fantasy and I've recently started to read again so I will no doubt share my opinions on that. I've also been watching a fair bit more films and TV shows recently so again I'll be writing my thoughts and opinions on the interwebs. Im tempted to try out video blogging as there are some really cool ones out there. So who knows you may see a video embedded with me talking at you.

Also I love gaming and its a passion I've had for ages, I love most types of games and its part of the reason why I picked the course I did. I own a 360, PS3, Laptop, DS, PSP etc because I like to play the exclusives and have a fair view on consoles as they all have there merits and I have my own personal preferences between them.

Oh wait I'm forgetting something, oh yes! Phones! Ye, I'm kinda that guy... I love the new wave of modern Smartphones and they are going through some interesting changes specially throughout the last couple years mainly due to the iPhone's launch in 2007. Again I try and keep things unbiased and I own one of each although they range in age and I'm not trying to show off I just want people to know I do try and use everything so I know what I'm talking about.

So thats just a bit of a summary of what to expect, so onwards I go!

here's some coffee, I took a picture randomly because i thought it looked nice and it gives me something to put in a generic welcome post :P
