just tested out instagram on android too while i was in the pub
Going into this film I had just seen the trailer and originally I was quite interested, the premise sounded really interesting and it seemed like they were aiming for something bigger and I knew that the books were meant to be quite decent too although I had heard bad things about the direction they took this film but I bit the bullet and saw it as my friends wanted to see it.
I gotta say it was a decent film, I quite liked the idea of an old tradition that seems morally questionable that is finally questioned. Also it has the whole post-apocalyptic world thing going for it which always brings something quite different to the table. The setting for this film takes place quite far after the event so things have moved on but there's a very strong rich and poor divide and the poor seem to have good survival skills in the wild whereas the rich seem to have the usual futuristic things that you would expect. I should also mention that the poor are separated into districts due to a rebellion years ago.
That was what initially drew me in but the film centers around one character named Katniss Everdeen and I quite like how they set her up as a strong character from the start which is good. She seems to be a highly skilled but very modest and she seems to be the one protecting her family which is an interesting dynamic. I definitely commend the film for doing this however it seems that they center around her a bit too much, leaving not enough time for other characters to develop. It's obvious that there trying to win back the twilight crowd but with a stronger protagonist and I'm pretty happy with that in the sense that its not an exact twilight clone with an empty shell of a character as the lead person.
I would''ve really liked to know more about the world outside of the hunger games, you see glimpses of it when things kind of break down in district 11. Also when you catch a glimpse of the rich you see the people running the event talk and it seems very old world order trying to keep a grips on the poor. Looking back it wasnt really as bad as the fact that other contestants seemed to be quite under developed but I guess it was due to time. If they can develop on the outside world a bit more which seems likely with the way things ended it could be an interesting series. I do want to pick up the books to see if that provides some good detail.
